Abstract

Metacognitive strategies play a crucial role in improving English reading comprehension by helping learners plan, monitor, and evaluate their understanding of texts. These strategies enable students to become more independent and reflective readers, fostering deeper engagement with reading materials. When learners consciously apply techniques such as predicting content, questioning meaning, summarizing key points, and evaluating their comprehension, they not only enhance vocabulary retention but also develop critical thinking and analytical skills. This paper explores the practical application of metacognitive strategies in English reading lessons, emphasizing how teachers can integrate reflective reading tasks, guided questioning, and self-assessment activities to promote learners’ autonomy and comprehension efficiency.
