Abstract. This article explores the concept of collocation in the English language, its types, functions, and significance in achieving fluency and natural communication. Collocations, as conventional combinations of words, play a vital role in both spoken and written English. The study analyzes different categories of collocations such as verb-noun, adjective-noun, adverb-adjective, and noun-noun combinations, highlighting their usage in academic, professional, and everyday contexts. The article also discusses the challenges language learners face in mastering collocations and emphasizes the importance of contextual learning, exposure, and practice. Furthermore, effective strategies for acquiring collocations, including the use of dictionaries, authentic materials, and modern language learning tools, are examined. The findings suggest that mastering collocations significantly enhances linguistic competence, improves communication accuracy, and contributes to overall language proficiency.
