Abstract

Abstract. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into English language education has emerged as one of the most transformative developments in contemporary pedagogy. This article examines the role, scope, and pedagogical implications of AI-powered tools and platforms in the English language learning process, with particular attention to the Uzbek educational context. Drawing on recent empirical research, Uzbek scholarly perspectives, and internationally recognised theoretical frameworks, the study analyses how AI applications - including intelligent tutoring systems, natural language processing tools, conversational agents, automated writing evaluation platforms, and adaptive learning systems - contribute to the development of learners' receptive and productive language skills. The article further investigates how AI facilitates personalised learning pathways, provides immediate corrective feedback, supports autonomous study habits, and enhances learner motivation and engagement. Challenges such as digital equity, overdependence on technology, the risk of superficial language acquisition, and the need for teacher professional development are critically evaluated. The article concludes that AI, when thoughtfully integrated into language instruction and aligned with sound pedagogical principles, offers significant potential for improving English language learning outcomes in Uzbekistan and similar educational settings.
