Abstract

The development of cognitive competencies has become a fundamental objective of contemporary education, as these competencies enable students to think critically, reason logically, solve problems, and regulate their own learning. This paper examines the theoretical foundations and educational significance of cognitive competencies, emphasizing their role in promoting higher-order thinking skills and lifelong learning. Drawing on the cognitive psychological theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, Bruner, Bandura, and Flavell, the study explores the key components of cognitive competence, including logical thinking, analysis and synthesis, independent decision-making, metacognitive regulation, information processing, problem-solving, and creative thinking.
