This article discusses the two-sided meaning of hijrah. While its original meaning is physical migration, it was historically an important event when early Muslims left Makkah to protect their faith and lives from persecution. Since the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared after the Conquest of Makkah that “there is no (more) hijrah,” the paper explains that physical migration is no longer a religious requirement today. Instead, the real hijrah in the modern context is a person’s inner struggle – leaving sins, wrong habits, and harmful desires. The article also notes that current claims promoting physical hijrah as a religious duty are inaccurate.
