Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the culture of silence in Japan. It analyzes the meaning of the concept “空気を読む” (kuuki wo yomu) and its role in expressing personal opinions while maintaining social harmony. The importance of silence in strengthening mutual respect among individuals, as well as in preserving etiquette and balance within society, is highlighted. Furthermore, the article emphasizes the role of the culture of silence in the social intelligence of the Japanese people and in their methods of adapting to society.
