Abstract

Paremiology plays a vital role in exploring the inseparable relationship between language and culture. Japanese paremiology, especially proverbs containing zoonymic elements, deeply reflects the nation’s worldview and cultural values. This article analyzes the moral and social meanings expressed through animal imagery in Japanese proverbs. Through examples, it highlights values such as humility, loyalty, discipline, wisdom, and the complexity of human relationships in Japanese society. The study also shows that many Japanese zoonymic proverbs share semantic similarities with those in other cultures, emphasizing the universality of human cognition and cultural expression.
