Abstract

This study analyzes the role and importance of formative and summative assessment in foreign language teaching, as well as their impact on educational effectiveness. Formative assessment is considered a tool that serves to continuously monitor students' learning process and gradually develop their knowledge and skills. This paper examines the relationship between these two types of assessment, their advantages and disadvantages, and the methods of their effective use in foreign language teaching. The results of the study show that the harmonious use of formative and summative assessment increases students' motivation in the language learning process, develops independent thinking and communicative competences. Also, this approach to assessment allows teachers to improve teaching strategies and strengthen the individual approach.
