Abstract

This paper examines the efficacy of utilizing short literary fiction as a primary tool for enhancing English language proficiency among intermediate adult learners. Moving beyond traditional pedagogical methods, it analyzes the inherent structural and linguistic benefits of the short story format. Through the analysis of selected works by Hemingway, O. Henry, and Le Guin, this article demonstrates how targeted engagement with short fiction facilitates vocabulary acquisition, grammatical internalization, and cultural competence. The findings indicate that short stories provide a high-yield, low-anxiety framework for comprehensive language improvement.
