Abstract

This article presents a detailed overview of general and modern typological trends in contemporary linguistics. It discusses classical typological classifications — phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic — and examines modern directions such as statistical, cognitive, corpus, and areal typology. The study emphasizes how globalization, technological progress, and interdisciplinary research have transformed typology into a dynamic, empirically grounded discipline. It also highlights the significance of typology for language learning, translation studies, and multilingual education.
