THE ROLE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Idiomatic expressions constitute an essential component of the English language and play a significant role in both spoken and written communication. They represent fixed combinations of words whose meanings cannot always be understood through the literal interpretation of their individual components. Idioms enrich language by adding expressiveness, cultural depth, stylistic variety, and emotional coloration to communication. The present article examines the role and importance of idiomatic expressions in English, focusing on their linguistic characteristics, communicative functions, cultural significance, and pedagogical value. The study explores how idioms contribute to language fluency, intercultural competence, and effective communication among native and non-native speakers. The findings reveal that idiomatic expressions serve not only as linguistic units but also as carriers of cultural knowledge, historical experience, and national identity. Mastery of idioms enhances learners' communicative competence and facilitates deeper understanding of authentic English discourse. Therefore, the study highlights the necessity of incorporating idiomatic expressions into language teaching and learning processes.
