Bakteriya hujayrasidagi barcha metabolik jarayonlar
fermentlar yordamida amalga oshadi. Fermentlar biokatalizator sifatida harakat qiladi
va odatda oddiy yoki murakkab oqsillardan tashkil topgan bo‘ladi. Fermentlar ikki
turga bo‘linadi: ekzofermentlar va endofermentlar. Ekzofermentlar bakteriya
hujayrasidan tashqi muhitga chiqarilib, u yerda turli moddalarni parchalaydi. Ba’zi
ekzofermentlar bakteriyalarning oziqlanishi bilan bog‘liq, chunki ular oziq
moddalarini mikrob hujayrasi tomonidan so‘rilishi mumkin bo‘lgan shaklga
aylantiradi. Endofermentlar hujayra ichidagi oziq moddalarining parchalanishi va
hujayraning tarkibiy qismlariga aylanishida ishtirok etadi.
