Abstract
This article explores the critical interplay between culture and pragmatics in the
context of second language acquisition and pedagogy. It examines how culturally-
informed pragmatic competence is essential for effective communication, moving
beyond mere grammatical accuracy to encompass appropriate language use in diverse
social contexts. Drawing on current research in applied linguistics, the paper discusses
theoretical frameworks that integrate cultural understanding into pragmatic instruction.
Practical implications for language educators are highlighted, advocating for
pedagogical approaches that foster learners' awareness of socio-pragmatic norms and
their ability to navigate intercultural communication challenges.
