Abstract

Annotation
The  reign  of  Henry  VIII  (1509–1547)  was  one  of  the  most  dramatic  and
transformative  periods  in  English  history.  Henry’s  desire  to  annul  his  marriage  to
Catherine  of  Aragon  led  to  a  break  with  the  Roman  Catholic  Church  and  the
establishment  of  the  Church  of  England.  This  separation  from  Rome  initiated  the
English Reformation — a movement that changed the religious, political, and cultural
landscape of the nation. Henry’s rule also strengthened royal authority and laid the
foundations for England’s transformation into a modern state.
